Growth in population and commerce eventually created the need for an organized educational system and therefore Henderson County
purchased land at the present intersection of U.S. 25 and Blue Ridge Rd. "in order to establish a school and a two- story stucco building was constructed for grades one to twelve. A one room school house was
constructed soon after the aforementioned land's purchase and it was followed by several other structures. During the 1920's several
brick structures were constructed, three of which survive today.
